Welcoming Logan Cook!

Posted by karen on November 30, 2012

I wanted to get a quick post up today to formally welcome Baby Logan Cook into the world! He was born on Wednesday, and Julia is doing really well and headed home today. She had a quick birth!

Her water broke at 4 a.m., was dilated by 8 a.m., the doctor came at 8:40 a.m. and Logan was out by 9 a.m. Wow!

More updates soon, but here are some photos of her little newborn!

Mommy Spotlight: @mommy_probbs

Posted by karen on November 29, 2012

I received a lot of great feedback on my recent 4th trimester posts, particularly yesterday’s postpartum recovery Q&A with Mommy Expert Lisa, which included very honest experiences from Mommy Experts Sena and Lauren as well.

I think it’s interesting because when I started this blog, I knew there were topics that never get talked about broadly and I would want to address them.  I’m finding that new, expecting parents don’t know what they don’t know; therefore, they never know to proactively look into these topics when getting ready for mommy life. So many of the moms I’ve spoken to said they were unaware and caught off guard with postpartum recovery. Doctors would hand them these long maxi pads, and they were bewildered. It was so validating to see the impact the posts had on readers, who had no idea otherwise because they’re still pregnant. Even new moms were like, “Yup, wish I knew all this before!” Anyway, there is still a lot to be said, so more to come on the topic.

In the meantime, I wanted to change it up a bit with a new Mommy Spotlight and feature someone I found on Twitter of all places, whom I am truly delightful to learn more about.

I’ve been actively following #mommylife on Twitter, and I’ve been so intrigued by the conversation under that hash tag. Using #mommylife, moms share their moments of joy in being a new mom, and they get to ask questions about motherhood at odd hours and get immediate tweet responses. #mommylife is essentially everything related to this new world of being a mom. But what I especially love is that moms have an open forum to speak freely with what’s on their mind in a quick and simple manner because you only have 140 characters you can use! I started to dig more and realized the Twitter user @mommy_probbs has been the one behind this really active group.

When I  talked with a recent new mom about her key tip for the 4th trimester, she said to make sure you had some other moms you could talk to and ask questions at all hours. I definitely believe #mommylife on Twitter is a great outlet for new moms, especially with the late-night feedings and sleepless nights. Because of that, here’s my recent conversation with @mommy_probbs, whom you may also remember from a recent post on new mom advice for Julia.

P.S. Yes, we are still waiting for word on the baby!

Q&A with Mommy Expert Lisa: What to Know and Tips Before Going into Labor and Dealing with Postpartum Recovery

Posted by karen on November 28, 2012

We spent a lot of time last week talking about the 4th trimester and the baby blues and the changes you will go through, so I thought it would be fitting to also talk about postpartum recovery tips and what to expect before going into labor. All of which The Mommy Experts and I just shared with Julia personally.

For some of the Mommy Experts, postpartum recovery was a “COMPLETE SHOCK!” as Mommy Expert Sena said. She went on to share that she “knew absolutely nothing and didn’t hear anything about it” before she experienced it.

Mommy Expert Lauren also echoed the same feelings: “It was very painful, I could barely walk for several days after. I was definitely not prepared for the amount of fluid and other tissues that leave your body for WEEKS afterward.  I was so unprepared I didn’t even realize I would need real (full butt!!) underwear and pads, and poor Anthony had to run to Target for me. The absolute worst part was that I was TERRIFIED to poop because I knew it would be soooo painful. I sat in the bathroom and cried several times and didn’t actually do it for almost a week…”

For me and any expecting mom, you can’t help but squirm and think, “Yikes?!”

But this is where I come in to help.

At Tyckled Tales, I believe we need to make it easier for expecting moms getting ready for parenthood. To do so, I’m curating the best tips and insights that are out there to make the process easier so new moms (and dads!) can apply our learnings.

As a result, I’m featuring some tips and essentials you should know before going into labor and deal with postpartum recovery. Today will be a Q&A on this from our very own, Mommy Expert Lisa, who has gone through this with her first born, Maddie, and twins, Ashlyn and Everett.

What are your biggest questions getting ready for this? Or if you’ve gone through this before, what was your experience like?

Advice for Julia As A New Mom

Posted by karen on November 18, 2012

Julia is just days away from her due date!

When Mommy Expert Lisa was due a week before her first born Maddie, she said, “I felt anxious and excited. It felt like I had been waiting forever. Every morning, I would wake up, asking if today would be the day. It was also a bit scary because you’re dealing with the unknown, but I kept a ‘go with the flow’ attitude and have enjoyed every moment since.”

Because I’m sure Julia is also going through a rush of emotions and similar thoughts right now, I wanted to share some advice for new moms that I’ve collected from The Mommy Experts and recent moms.

What would you say to Julia, who is about to give birth to her first born?
